'Create the world you want' by Elisa Ablett

Hi Crafters,

Elisa here from the design team for Scrap Matrix with my latest layout based on the new Challenge for this month - What's the Point ? all about pointy things on your layouts this month.

This is my second layout this month using the Stamperia Blue Stars paper pack and Primary Elements Mica Powder as my main products.

No automatic alt text available.

My layout features Stars as my pointy feature.

Make sure you have a look at the website for the gorgeous stamp set #12 by Tracy Evans for Aall & Create, I utilised the star stamps from the set for my layout.

Here are some close ups of the finer details -

Start your background by adding modelling paste through your star stencil.

Then add your black water colour ink from 13 Arts plus layers of Gold Mica Powder and little bits of ochre or light brown.

A small pocket of the same in the top left hand corner. Black Ink and blue and brown splatters.

Wire makes a fabulous addition to a background, twisted around the stars (which i stamped and fussy cut out) I then foam mounted the stars.

Here are a few of the products I used from the Scrap Matrix Store -

6x6" 13 Arts Stars

Life is good - Sandra Brimelow

Hi everyone, I am sharing today the second of my guest design team projects for Scrap Matrix, it has been fun to be back as a guest designer, especially with the fun products I have had to work with.
I love how this layout came together, and playing with lots of products available in the shop was what brought it together.

Life is Good

So this layout, is one I decided to create continuing to use the wonderful paper selection from 7 Dots Studio Hazy Days range, this one is Gelly. I really loved these papers.

I wanted to grunge the paper up a bit more, so sanded it with some sand paper first. I then applied Ranger texture paste transparent matte through a Heidi Swapp 12 x 12 heart stencil. Whilst the texture paste was still wet, I sprinkled some Prima art sugar - antique silver, this is a really fine glitter, and looks fabulous sprinkled on to the page lightly.

I used some Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst spray over the background, to add a bit more colour, then did some stamping with Aall and Create stamp set # 25 and Ranger archival ink over the background randomly.

So that's the background done, next came all of the embellishing. I stamped some feathers and leaves using the Aall and Create stamp set #11, Paper Artsy stamp set JOFY 32 and Ranger archival ink. I coloured the flowers and feathers with Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst sprays and then fussy cut them.

I matted the photo using Heidi Swapp 6 x 6 mixed media die cut paper. Then I simply tucked all of my flowers, feathers and german scraps around the photo.
Finishing touches came with MAMBI Hey You chips, (the little pack of chipboard that just keeps giving), 7 Dots Studio Lost and Found elements. ecru roots and Prima flower from my stash.

I love the colours that I managed to put together on this layout, and the fact that I actually created a feminine grungy layout.
Thanks for having me here as a guest designer, it has been fun.

It's the pointy end with Helen

Welcome back to the Scrap Matrix challenge where this month
the challenge is "The point is."

Here is a vibrant mood board to inspire your creativity
and why not check out the fantastic projects by the
rest of the SCRAP MATRIX team?

I was inspired by the triangles and the chevrons,
as well as the grey, black and white colours.

This graphic paper led me to using crisp lines with lots of angles.

To emphasize the points, I trimmed a couple of
big triangles from this paper
and mounted it on black to suit the black and white photo.

This looked too stark, so I added a few smaller triangles
and fiddled around with placement.

I made a few pencil lines around the edges,
as I planned to add some mixed media under the photo
and some stamping along the bottom.

The Prima Rustic washers were added to draw the eye to the photo.

The title was cut from a different paper in the collection.
I love the way it combines with the image on the hoodie.

I tucked a couple of extra triangles in to balance the design.

Thanks for calling in today, I hope you find something
to inspire your creativity.
Would you like to play along?  You don't need a blog to join in and we'd love to see where the "points" take you.
Just pop your project in the folder named
"The point is" on facebook, by the 14th of June.   You MUST use at least one product from Scrap Matrix.

Here are the links to the products I used which are available at Scrap Matrix.

I used Brilliance pigment ink - Moonlight white for the stamping.

"Everyday moments" .. with Alz

Morning peeps!

So the current Scrap Matrix challenge (What's the point?) got me thinking. What is the point, after all? Of anything? Of everything? Of nothing? Of life? In an effort to divert my mid life, existential crisis, I scrapped ..

Everyday moments

This is Harry. Harry is a ratbag. Don't get me wrong, I love and adore him, but he's a ratbag. This pic shows him sprawled on the top of the outdoor table out on our back deck where we like to have brunch from time to time. You know like, where we like to eat. There is no respecting boundaries with a ratbag! This is but one example of his ratbag-iness. Stay tuned .. there will be more. But meanwhile, he's also 'my little man', my ratbag, and a very, very sweet boy.

Have I digressed? I think that's my speciality. Digressing. See?!

When tackling this challenge, I knew I wanted to work with some 'pointy' papers and a grey-ish colour scheme, so Pinkfresh Boy's Fort was definitely the way to go. But first off I wanted to add some colour and texture to my background. I did this by .. smearing around some Dina Wakley Media acrylic paint in Marine and Elephant; applying Opaque Matte Ranger Texture Paste through an Aall and Create stencil (#7); and whilst that was still wet, sprinkling on some Antique Silver Prima Art Sugar. Once all of that was dry and I'd shaken off the excess Prima Art Sugar, I splattered some 13 Arts Splash Glitter Ink in black around the page.

With that all done and dusted I cut some 'pointy' borders out of the Pinkfresh Boy's Fort patterned papers (following angled patterns where I could) and adhered them to my page, some with foam tape to create some depth in my layers.

I also wanted to use some 'pointy' chipboard on my page ..

(hasn't Ratbag got just the cutest paw??)

I painted and inked a variety of Blue Fern Studio chipboard. The Tattered Diamond Bits were painted with the Elephant Dina Wakley Media acrylic paint and the Radiant Bursts were painted with Marine Dina Wakley Media acrylic paint. I inked my chipboard title Everyday Moments, also by Blue Fern Studio, with a black Ranger Archival Ink Pad.

The final step once everything was stuck down was to add just a few extra details with some final embellishments.

Small White Flowers scattered about, some black bling I cut from a Molossi Crystal Line, randomly placed, and a few words from Tim Holtz Idea-ology Chit Chat Stickers and I was almost done.  Because they're quirky, and fun, and dogs (!!!) I had to add a Ryan Reaveley's Dylusions Creative Diary Die Cut Animal which I coloured in with Prima Watercolour Pencils.

Voila!

Don't forget you have until midnight on the 14th of June to add your entry to the appropriate album on the Scrap Matrix Shares Facebook page. Please also add details of the Scrap Matrix products you've used. Oh and don't forget (lol) to be inspired by this ..

.. as that's kinda the point (ha ha!) of the current challenge!

Wishing you happy, scrappy days.

Cheers .. Alz  :)

"You'll Move Mountains" by Monique

Good morning scrappy folks,  Monique here sharing my layout for  this month's "The Point Is..." Challenge at Scrap Matrix.

This is a seriously cool, fun challenge - open to all sorts of interpretation.  Just to get the imagination ticking over, there is even a cool mood board for inspiration.

As you can see, you can use triangles, chevrons, stars, arrows - anything at all so long as there is some "point" to it...lol.

This is what I created:
I decided to be a little different this time and go outside the box a little.  I used the Blue Fern Studio Ups and Downs Chipboard Panel  from Scrap Matrix to create the base of my layout.

I painted it with some Paper Artsy Fresco Finish Acrylic Chalk Paint in Terracotta with a tiny bit of Venice Blue added.  Once it was dry I used my finger to soften it with a tiny bit of Paper Artsy Fresco Finish Acrylic Chalk Paint in Glacier Ice from Seth Apter Boxed Paints (Set 4), then lightly sanded it back to add a little bit of texture.

I then fussy cut the geometric feature out of the Pink Fresh Paper - Escape the Ordinary/Explore and adhered slightly off centre of the chipboard panel.  To give it depth, I used some thick cardboard to lift it off the panel.

Next, I lightly sanded around my photo and adhered it to a piece of black cardstock.  Again, I used some thick cardboard to lift the photo up off the layout - all to give a sense of many layers. (I have to have layers - if I can't use texture paste, inks and stamps I have to do something...hehe.)

I picked some cool pointy embellishments from the Pink Fresh Escape the Ordinary Ephemera Pack and used them to create a visual triangle around my photo.

After I did that I decided it needed some more layers and some pops of black, so I used black cardstock to cover some of the chevron gaps in the chipboard panel, and then painted some of the leftover chevron pieces in black to adhere to the layout.

Finally, I used an Irresistible Pico Embellisher to trace around the black cardstock and the black chevron pieces, and some gold leaf to pick up the gold in the ephemera I used.

Here are some close ups:

Well that's it from me for now.  Don't forget if you want to participate in this Pointy challenge, complete your project by the 14 June and upload it to the "The Point Is.." folder on the Scrap Matrix Shares Facebook Page.

Thank you for popping by the blog.  All the links to the Scrap Matrix shop for the products I have used can be found below:

"Seriously On Point" by Tammy

Good morning my lovelies

It's my turn to share the layout I created for our current 'The Point Is' Challenge.

Here it is.....

A fun layout with photos taken just prior to my girl hopping on stage and performing a Hip Hop Routine.

I wanted to capture the 'teenage attitude' so I selected bright colours, funky stamps that look like hand drawn doodling. I felt the 'pointy' theme was perfect for this age group.

To go with the theme I went with the title 'Seriously On Point'. LOL

So I began by selecting a sheet of 7Dots Paper for my background.
The paint splatters were perfect.

I swiped them randomly across my page using an old store card.

I then added some Dina Wakley Washi Tape in a chevron pattern.

I love this stamp set by Paper Artsy and knew it would be perfect for this layout.
I used the 3 arrow sets on the bottom right hand side and the file tab stamp and some lettering.

I can see this being a very handy stamp.

I  stamped the arrows onto the layout, ensuring they faced towards where I was going to add my photo. This draws the eyes into the photos and ensures the focus is on them.

I then pulled out a paper I had created a few weeks ago - my first play with the Gelli Plate!
I'd used a cool 13Arts stencil with lots of triangles.....perfect, and I knew the colour would make the page pop.
I achieved the colour using Paper Artsy 'Tracy Scott' Paints.

I then cut out some taggy bits and also used the file tab stamp and cut this out too.

I then placed my photos down, and began tucking in the above items.

I made my own tags from the 6x6 Paper Pad. which I also tucked around the page.

I then added a few embellishments from the Paint Chips range.....arrows, word stickers etc.

The final touches were to add the title from the Mambi Chip Stickers.
These have really been turning up on all my layouts!!

I simply wrote on an embellishment for the rest of the title.

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot, I swiped black paint around the edges to completely finish it off and added a few splashes of paint.

Here's a bit of a close up.....I love how the various arrows/points look like I've drawn them on.
These stamps print so very quickly.

Fun, vibrant and ON POINT! Lol

So that's it from me today!

I'd love you to join in with our challenge this month....

It's super easy, you don't even need a blog!
Just head to our Scrap Matrix Shares Page and pop it in the correct album.

The only rule is that you MUST use some Scrap Matrix products!
But hey that's super easy.....all my layouts are covered in them.
Just let us know which products you used in the comments.

That's it!
