'Boho Soul' by Elisa Ablett - Art Journal Inspiration

Merry Christmas Scrap Matrix Groupies!

Elisa here from the design team with my latest inspiration for you based on this month's Colour Wheel Challenge - a rainbow art journal page.

I decided to go with the rainbow as my colour scheme and was inspired by the 'eye' in the challenge graphic and then fell in love with this gorgeous stamp from Aall and Create which is available in the shop now.

Here is a little info about Rainbow's and why there is only 7 colours in the rainbow -

Rainbows: Refraction of the Seven Colours of the Spectrum.
rainbow has seven colours because water droplets in the atmosphere break sunlight into seven colours. A prism similarly divides light into seven colours
When light leaves one medium and enters another, the light changes its propagation direction and bends.

Thank goodness for Google and Wikipedia when you are having trouble remembering Science from High School is all i can say 😅😅😅😅😅

If you haven't entered your project in this month's challenge, here is the link!

Here are some close ups for the finer details.

Using a black staz on inkpad, I stamped the face stamp onto Acetate and let dry, then cut into a rectangle shape with extra space on the sides to sew stripes of white paper and colourful threads.

Add extra triangles by tracing the inside of a triangle stencil and then colouring the triangles with markers or inks, then fussy cut out and glue to your page.

Add a scribble distressed border to your page using a black waterproof marker.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today !

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hugs

Scrap Matrix Challenge - The Colour Wheel - 2nd project with Helen

Welcome back to the Scrap Matrix challenge this month
where we have a vibrant and colourful mood board to inspire you.

The bright colours reminded me of the Spring flowers in our garden and that led me to thinking of my littlest Grand children blooming like flowers in another state, so the page is all about them.

We connect on Face time and when our 22 month girl sees my face, she says, "Where's Pa?"  It's almost like she thinks we are the terrible twins; can't have one without the other!   She is  learning about colours now and she knows many of them.  I marvel at her ability to distinguish different hues of the same colour.

I started with a piece of heavy weight white card stock.
As usual when working with mixed media, I applied a coat of Finnabair White gesso, so the mixed media has tooth to grab onto.

In an attempt to create a hillside of flowers, I mixed Dylusions paints, Periwinkle blue and a big blob of Dylusions White Linen and swiped it on with a baby wipe to create a sky. The colours looked a bit too lavender, so I added a bit of Dylusions Polished Jade.

The hills were created the same way, but this time with Fresh Lime into a blob of white.

I like the mottled, streaky look created by using a baby wipe to apply the colour.

Next, I added an additional layer by dabbing white gesso through  a stencil from my stash.

While the background was drying, I stamped out various flower and stem images with Tim Holtz Jet Black Archival ink.   Then I  fussy cut the images before adding colour with Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks. These sticks are super creamy and smooth to work with and when water is added, their colours intensify.  Just yummy.

I used the following stamps.

I may have bought a few stamps when I went to Tracey Scott's
inspirational classes earlier in the year!

These two are currently out of stock, but can be ordered.

Paper Artsy ETS22
Paper Artsy ETS18

Next, I just fiddled around (yes, that's a scrapbooking term!) until I was somewhat happy with the placement.   I can never settle on the first idea that comes to mind.

The background looked too bare, so I trialled various stems and small flower stamps on the first version of this layout.   Do you do that too?   Have a trial run, to see what works, make a big hot mess and toss it in the bin?

I won't bore you with pictures of each addition; the clouds, the butterfly, the branches and tiny flowers.

Suffice it to say, I'm really happy with the finished result.  I'd forgotten to leave room for a quote, so I just scribbled it up the stems.
Ta Da!

I hope you find time to play along, just add your entry to the Scrap Matrix Shares page in the corresponding folder and don't forget to let us know what Scrap Matrix products you used and what inspired you.  You could be in the running for a generous gift voucher and perhaps a Guest Design Team spot down the track.

Scrapbook layout ..... by Lynn

Morning Lynn here with another take on this months moodboard.  Today I have a scrapbook layout that I did of my son on his recent trip to Sweden.

I have gone with the Triad method on the colour wheel - using blue, red and yellow

I began with two of the pages from the 7 Dots Studio Airmail Collection.   When putting them together I did not seal the centre as I was unsure at this stage if I would be poking tags etc in, so I let the double sided tape protector on and pulled a bit through so I could easily seal it later.

I have applied a layer of clear gesso over the entire page before starting so my inks wouldnt soak into the paper.

To apply the Distress Oxide I have rubbed the ink pad on a piece of transparency and then spritzed with water before dabbing the transparency around my page.  I did this one colour at a time - and dried in between colours.

Once I was happy with the colour I then applied the same colours with a paintbrush to give splash marks only

Using tags and stickers from the 7 Dots Airmail collection I created a photo matt.  I then wanted to stamp the words using the Tim Holtz foam alphas.   I find using a stamping platform the best option when you have more than one letter in your word and to get a perfect dark image.

for the final touches and to complete my Triad colour scheme I have added splashes of yellow paint around the layout.  I have used Paper Artsy Zesty Zing for this as I wanted the yellow to stand out a bit.

Here are some close ups:

I hope that you find time to complete a project - layout, art journal page, cards, ATC's, canvas etc and enter this months challenge.  It is very easy to enter - just upload your photo in our Scrap Matrix Shares Facebook group and let us know one product you used that is available in the Scrap Matrix store.

You have until the end of December to enter and be in the running to win an instore voucher :)

Scrapping my Art Sisters - by Tam

Hi there everyone,

Tam back today to share another take on the current 'Colour Wheel Challenge'.

Last time I went with a rainbow effect on a white background, so this time I decided to go with a rainbow effect on a black background.

Love the vibrancy!!

You can see I've changed it up a little from last time.
I decided to have fun with one of my recent stencil purchases!!
LOVE IT!
plus I wanted to use Dylusions paints instead of the Ink Sprays.
A totally different finish, but still with the gorgeous bold, vibrant colours that I love so much about Dylusions.

So let's get started.......

I began with black cardstock....if you are an art journaller, you could just add black gesso to your background first.

Look at all those lovely colours!!

I began by just painting the colours directly onto the cardstock....the only real rule I followed was to follow the rainbow pattern. (ROYGBIV)

I used the following colours (in order)

I then added a stencil by The Crafter's Workshop in a 12x12 size - there are so many that you could do this with....and they'd look amazing.

I then applied black gesso using a sponge.......

The effect is just awesome, and I love that by using black gesso onto black it gives the illusion that you have painted the detail in colour.

Very tricky and super easy.

Now it's time to work with my photo and layers.

I cut up some of this die cut paper which comes from a Heidi Swapp pack. It has some gorgeous designs in it.....
I used this as a base to my photo and the other elements.

As I was scrapping some of my fellow Design Team members, from the weekend we had at Victor Harbor for the fabulous Tracy Scott classes, I saw a couple of quotes from this 13Arts Sticker sheet and just knew they'd be perfect!

I grabbed a 7Dots Studio tag and cut it in half and added it behind my photos. To one side I added this gorgeous quote, which really sums up how I feel about the Scrap Matrix Design team...actually not just the team, but everyone who shares and inspires within the Scrap Matrix Shares group.
You all bring joy and light to my life.

I am blessed to be a part of the Scrap Matrix family.

I then added 'Art Sisters' sticker to the other side of the tag, and added a Heidi Swapp epoxy word above it to complete my title.

I wanted to add a bit more colour to the cluster, so I grabbed some white flowers and spritzed them with Dylusions Ink Spray in bubblegum pink.

I then poked these underneath the photos.

I stamped some of my new Carabelle stamps onto white cardstock.  Love these leaves - I then cut them out and poked them amongst the flowers.

You may be able to see in the cluster that I also added some Dina Wakley tissue paper.

I love adding this to my layouts, it provides another texture.

There you have it!!

When you have ALL that gorgeous colour going on, you can keep some of your layers a bit simpler. I really only used black, white, pink and a splash of turquoise in the cluster.....I wanted the rainbow background to be the hero.

Are you entering our challenge this month?
I sure hope so....it's one of my favourite boards that we've had so far.
I'm really looking forward to what you create.

Remember it's very open to your interpretation. You could create a layout, some cards, a canvas, a gift for someone for Christmas, and of course an Art Journal page.

Just be inspired by this image and then load your entries into the corresponding album over at the Scrap Matrix Share Group.  No need to have a blog. So easy!
The only rule is you must use at least ONE Scrap Matrix product...or you can be like me and use LOTS!!!

You have until the end of December, and you could win a voucher to Scrap Matrix store (wouldn't that be the best Christmas present!), and you could nab yourself a Guest Design spot.
We'd love you to come play with us!

Thankyou so much for being here, and for cheering me on all year. You can always head to my BLOG if you'd like to see more.

I've loved inspiring you throughout 2018, it's one of the highlights of the year for me. I look forward to continuing that in 2019.

Wishing you all a magical and light filled Christmas!

Luv Tam
