Spritz and Spray with Jen

 Hi Everyone!

  Are you enjoying the challenge this month so far?   I see there are a few entries already posted on the Facebook share page and they are fantastic!  I hope to inspire a few more entries today. 

 

I've created a small canvas to share with you today. I've used Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays that have a shimmer.

 

I didn't really have a plan when I first started. I knew what I would like to use but I was unsure if I would use them.

 

I glued strips of 7 Dots Studio papers (Cotton Candy and Write's Block) across my canvas and covered them with gesso.  

 

 I did hope that some of the detail on the papers would show through.

 

I glued on the metal elements that I wanted to form the base of my design first and coated them with gesso. Then the rest of my metal elements, shapes, jewels, stones and beads. Next, a final coat of gesso.

 

Once dry I sprayed my lightest colour in the middle and worked my way towards the edges using darker shades.  It required a couple of coats to get the result I wanted.  I had hoped that the colours would drip along the strips, but they didn't.  At least not the way I wanted. 

To highlight some of my elements I added some wax from my stash just to make a few details stand out.

 

I finished with a Tim Holtz sticker.

Jen's Mini Canvases

Hi Everyone!

It’s a glorious day here in Far North Queensland.  It’s a lovely 24C, (with 62% humidity), and the sun is shining.  Are you southerners jealous?  Don’t worry, there’s more rain forecast in the coming days and the humidity will skyrocket to 95% leaving everything damp and clammy once more. That’s the price you pay for living in paradise.  Excuse me; my washing machine is calling me…

…I’m taking full advantage of the free solar and wind energy today.

 I’m back again with my projects for the Mini Madness challenge.  While I didn’t have any trouble deciding what to do with my first project, the second didn’t come easily.  After a bit of ‘research’ online I decided to do some mini canvases.  One of the problems of living in a rural area is the lack of crafty stores in the immediate area, (which is why I shop at Scrap Matrix).  Sadly my local options are K-Mart, the local overflow stores and my friend who is a Kaszazz consultant.  Luckily one overflow store has mini canvases for less than $5 which suits my budget down to the ground.

I’ve created three canvases, (well actually four, but the first one was such a complete disaster it’s on my desk waiting for a black gesso makeover).  I’ve used Paperartsy Fresco Acrylic Paints on all of them with mostly Paperarsty stamps.  The technique is relatively simple.  I’ve blended three colours of the same hue with a brush and my fingers, (I think Gumboots might be my new favourite colour), and stamped with Archival Ink.  Let’s have a closer look at each one.

Number 1...

I've added some old music paper here with gel medium.

I've stamped my main images onto the canvas.  Stamp Set ESN 34...

...and again with clear embossing powder onto print.(Very had to photograph. My apologies if you can't see it.) I cut out the birds and attached them with 3D foam.  I added some Tim Hotltz Stickers.

Number 2...

This time I've used Carabelle Studio stamp sets Kooky Cats and Round & About.

Finishing with white Posca doodles and Tim Holtz sticker. The cats were stamped onto a piece of cardstock painted with Butter and Nougat and detailed with a purple pencil.

Number 3...

Lastly I thought I'd try circles rather than lines and was quite pleased with the result.

I've used Paperarsty stamp set EKD02...

...and once again finished with a Tim Holtz sticker.

Easy peasy.

(The birds were coloured with pencils).

My niece has claimed the Kooky Cats. I barely had time to photograph it before she had hidden it in away her bag. I'm sure the others will find homes in no time at all.

Hi all Tanya Here..

Today I'm sharing a canvas I have created.

First up I painted a face and a background with Paper Artsy Fresco Paints and some TCW stencils.

Next I grabbed some old book paper and water color paper and painted rough circles in a mix off sizes, using Prima Watercolors. Once Dry I stamped some random bits and pieces using Carabelle Studio stamps. I then fussy cut the circles and then dug deep into the stash and found some long forgotten brads and stacked the circles largest to smallest and joined with a brad.

Next i stamped the scribble rose from a set of Art by Marlene and then doodled on it and fussy cut them out. I also stamped a Art Foamy Rose by Art by Marlene using the brayer and paint technique and cut them out.

I then did some paint drips behind where i though my flowers would go before building a flower crown.

So there she is and how she came to life!

Rebecca's Second Texture Share - Patina Paste

Hi Everyone, 

Rebecca here with you today to bring with you my second project for the Scrap Matrix Texture Challenge. This project is a mixed media canvas which showcases Finnabair Patina Pastes and also highlights recycling a few things that perhaps could have been destined for the rubbish bin. 

So when I mention recycling I ask you to take a little look at the below photo, you will see wool, lace and packaging. This has all been adhered down with 3D gloss gel. The wool can be a little tricky, it requires a bit of work and manipulation but once it is down and set it is well and truly set. 

To the sides of my canvas I adhered strings of dangly curtain screen pieces. Sorry, this name is not too descriptive is it? I bought a whole screen of these dangly things, I think they may date back to the 70's. 

Through a stencil apply some Finnabair Modeling Paste to your canvas. The stencil I have used below is old stock from the Finnabair line. Any stencil could be used here as long as you are giving some texture to your canvas. There are so many gorgeous stencils in the Scrap Matrix store to choose from. 

After allowing ample time for the modelling paste to dry it is time for the fun part to start. It is time to start applying the patina pastes. For my background you will see the main colour is the bronze, I dabbed and dabbed and dabbed until the canvas was coloured in all the cracks. Once this was dry I lightly applied the lighter blue and green colours until I was happy. I used both a brush and my finger. 

Cannot help myself, I am back again with my glossy accents raised dots. Once these were dry I gave them and other raised area on my canvas a light rub with Metalliqe Wax in Vintage Gold. 

Here we have one of my husbands old paint brushes, this was destined for the rubbish bin. I decided to rescue it. 

I made an embellishment stack using bronze embellishments from the Scrap Matrix Store. 

A coat of clear gesso must be applied to the brush prior to the patina paste. The gesso will give the brush tooth for the patina to stick to. NOTE - the little clay face is one I made myself with a mould and some Fimo. 

Patina to my brush and then adhere brush to the canvas, and you are DONE! :-) 

Who is out there and feeling a little mixed media inspired? as you can see this project 'may' look complicated but it is actually quite simple to put together. I urge you to step outside of your comfort zone.

Second Holiday Share - Mixed Media Canvas by Rebecca

Hello Everyone,

Rebecca here with you today to share my second project for the holiday challenge this month with Scrap Matrix. Now I know you will be looking at the below mixed media canvas and thinking, hmmm Rebecca, what does this exactly have to do with holidays?. Well, it was created during the school holidays, this still kind of counts right?. I really wanted to take the 7 Dots Studio Paint Chips collection and apply to bright and funky canvas. I know this is a little on the different side but I am happy with the results. It is good to step out of your comfort zone. 

Here is a side view of the canvas...

To begin my canvas I adhered Paint Chips paper to the canvas, the main base and all the edges.

I really didn't like the clean white edges so decided to cover them in tissue tape. Tissue tape sometimes does not stick down too well, to ensure complete adhesion I used double sided tape underneath it. 

The Prima 'Paint Splatters' stamp set worked so well with this collection. Random stamping around the main part of the canvas and the sides. 

Finnabair Art Basics Soft Gloss Gel was applied to the canvas through a stencil.

When the Soft Gloss Gel was later dry I added a touch of Art Alchemy Metallique Wax in Vintage Gold. As I wanted the dots to pop a little more I traced around them a black water pencil then smudged it a little with my finger and water. You will see here in the bottom corner beautiful box corners which are also available in the Scrap Matrix store. 

Art Extravagance Texture Paste in colour Graphite was then applied throughout the gaps around the canvas and also to the sides of the canvas. This paste although grey when you look in the tub, it does dry get black (as you can see). 

My flowers were created using a combination of Paint Chips die cut paper, old spoons, zipper flowers and seed beads.
