Hi everyone, I am back with my second layout for September as a guest designer for Scrap Matrix, for the frames challenge. Here is the graphic for the challenge:

I love how versatile this challenge is, so many different ways to use frames.

This layout, had me go in a slightly different direction. I decided to cut a frame using one of my papers from the 13 Arts - Art Journey range - Creativity and Travel papers, which I used as a surrounding frame for the layout. 

Using the Tim Holtz distress oxides - Walnut stain, I added some depth to the papers, and also edged the frame.

To the backround I also spattered some Lindy's Stampgang Starburst spray - bodacious blush. 

A bit of stamping also added to the background using Ranger archival ink - jet black and Aall and Create stamp set #10, and Blue Fern Studio stamp set - texture circles.

To finish the background, I used Aall and Create stencil #10, and texture paste. I also spattered the background using Irresistible spray - wedding dress.

I used a Blue Fern Studio chipboard - brick rings frame, and coloured it with Lindy's Stampgang starburst spray - clam bake beige. 

To embellish, I stamped some images using Aall and Create stamp set #11 and #44 and Tim Holtz distress oxides - walnut stain and tattered rose. I also added a little wood veneer frame to my cluster. The Tim Holtz Idealogy small talk stickers were also nifty little additions on the layout. 

To finish the layout, I embellished using Blue Fern Studio flowers - late winter lillies.

Morning peeps!

I'm baaaaaaack. Okay so this is my third post this month. I know I know lol, but I couldn't help but create another layout with this month's challenge!

A quick reminder of this month's fabulous moodboard challenge Love is sweet ..

I've already created a layout using pink which was inspired by the baby photo, and a layout focusing mostly on green with some neutral elements. This time I was inspired by the yellow, albeit a softer yellow, and the shape of the macaroons. The layout came together super quickly, so I'll keep this super quick. Well, lol, at least I'll try.

I created my background on patterned paper from the Maja Design Coffee in the Arbour collection. Three quick steps and it was done. Literally. Using the masking technique I've shared before, I stamped some circles from a Blue Fern Studios stamp set, Texture Circles with a Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink in Antique Linen. I gave that a quick blast with a heat gun before applying Ranger Texture Paste through a TCW Stencil, 12x12 Tiny Circles. Judging by how grungy my stencil is (oops), I'm going to hazard a guess its my favourite. lol. Once that was dry I flicked around my absolute favourite product of all time, irResistible Spray. I've used the Desert Sand and OMGee it is divine. It looks like toffee and I can't hardly wait to use it on kraft cardstock as I reckon it'll look sensational. Moving on (lol).

Next, I stamped some circles from the Blue Fern Studios stamp set, Texture Circles on another sheet of patterned paper from the Maja Design Coffee in the Arbour collection. I used circle punches to cut out two different sizes .. one the original size of the stamp and the other, a smaller size. I inked the edges of both size circles to give them some definition. Oh, and I used the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink, in Antique Linen, for my stamping which, again, I heat set.

I mounted my photograph with some cardboard packaging to raise it off the page and then added my stamped circles and some Petaloo Florals (Mini Paintables - Blossoms Ivory) around the photo as a mat of sorts, and also as embellishments. I added some other small bits and pieces I had sitting on my table gathering dust, and a stick pin I made (my latest obsession). I added the journaling I printed using my favourite font, 1942 report, which I found free online somewhere, and voila, I was done! I told you it was super quick. Here's a couple of close ups ..

Hello, I am delighted to have been asked to be guest designer at Scrap Matrix, for a second time. It has been fun to play along with the new challenge, "To the Point". Here is the challenge graphic, as a reminder:

There is so much great inspiration here with this challenge, so it was a fun one to be able to do.

I had a photo in mind when it came to this challenge, and when I received the papers and other products to play with, I knew this was going to work together. I wanted to create something really grungy, but not too grungy that it was overwhelming to work with my photo. 

Dream Big

I started this layout with these awesome 7 Dots Studio Hazy Days collection papers, I mean to say, they just speak grunge to me when I look at them. To top it off, they already had on them chevrons and zigzag patterns, just like in the challenge graphic. I cut the chevron strip off the bottom of the Zip paper and stuck it to the Slick paper, as this had the colour on it that I wanted to work with. 

The other great product that I got to use for this layout was this Paper Artsy stencil.

So I was well and truly supplied with products to make a grungy boy layout using the point theme for the challenge. 

I laid down some colour onto my patterned paper, using Dylusions paint, Dina Wakely acrylic paint, and Tim Holtz distress oxides.. 

Using the Paper Artsy stencil, and Finnabair by Prima clear crackle texture paste, I applied texture over my page. 

Other detail added to the background was done by using this awesome stamp set by Paper Artsy and Ranger archival ink.

So after all of that creativity, I ended up with this background.

So to embellish the layout, firstly I made some stars, using the 7 dots paper, I also used this to mat my photo. 

I was given this awesome MAMBI chipboard pack to work with. So using chipboard pieces that worked for the layout, I sanded them back to make them a bit grungy, and placed them strategically around the page in clusters, wherever they suited. For the title I had a different idea in my head, but flicking through the pack, I found the piece that said Dream Big, which I thought was a perfect title, considering my great-nephew was trying to get onto a very oversized skateboard. 

As extra embellishing, I used 7 Dots Studio Lost and Found Elements to scatter around the layout.

I love the grungy feel to this layout, without it being too grungy for a small boy. I loved creating it. So I hope I have provided some inspiration, and you feel like doing the challenge. Until next time...Sandra.

Ranger challenge February 2018 - A trio of cards

It’s Helen with you today sharing my second Design Team project for the 
Scrap Matrix Ranger challenge.

I love to send hand made cards and Ranger products are just the thing to kick start my mojo. The first card has a masculine theme; I think it would be fine for any occasion, Birthday, Father's Day, Retirement etc.

I began with an ivory coloured card blank, added some hessian from my stash and then puddled around with Ranger’s Distress Oxides to make the background of the card on smooth white 300 gsm card stock.  

It's a messy process but I love the unpredictable nature of Oxides; I can never replicate a background, so each piece is original. 

These are the oxide colours I used.

Looking for more detail, I sponged some Vintage Photo distress ink, through a Tim Holtz stencil “Measured THS012”

Then I stitched the background to a darker piece of card stock.

All our Sons and Grandsons are dog lovers, so this Gent with his top hat and his dog, looked perfect for a bloke’s card.  He came from a collection of Idea-ology Paper Dolls.   They are great for card making, art journalling and scrapbooking; super versatile. I added a Idea-ology Journalling Ticket for extra dimension and interest.

I tucked some Tim Holtz Film Strip Ribbon  under the Metal Word Band similar to those in the store and tied the metal on with some sting. 

 

Finally I rubbed some Moss coloured, Ranger Patina onto the metal, to create an aged effect.

The second card is a girly one.
We have a little Grand daughter learning ballet 
and I thought this would suit her perfectly.

I've used the Ranger Distress Oxides again to create the background.
These are the colours I used.
Salty Ocean
Wilted Violet
Picked Raspberry

The Ranger texture paste was added through one of my 
favourite flower stencils Tim Holtz Roses THS075

 

 

The dancing girl is from the same set as the spiffy gent in the top card,
she was in the pack of Idea-ology Paper Dolls.

Her dress looked rather brown, so I coloured it with Ranger Distress ink, Spun Sugar, then added Ranger embossing pad and heat embossed it with
Ranger glitter embossing powder.

The stamping was done with Ranger archival ink, Majestic Violet

The stamps are Dylusions inbetweenies DYR34575

I added a few strips of torn Tim Holtz washi tape.

The metal band is from Ranger Idea-ology word bands, similar to the
 Metal Word Band in the store.


Finally and using the Idea-ology Paper Dolls again,
I created a wedding card.

The cream brocade fabric is from my Mother's stash and I used her 
old pinking shears to cut the edges.

This time I used Ranger Texture Paste Matte 4oz first through a Tim Holtz Stencil, Flourish THS032, then I dried it off and used the Ranger Distress Oxides  to create a resist effect.
These are the colours I used.
Peeled Paint
Cracked Pistachio
Antique Linen

 

 

Then I tucked some Tim Holtz Film Strip Ribbon at the bottom, topped it with some Cream lace from Scrap Matrix, before adding a Tim Holtz Word Key.
It was a bit shiny, so I altered it with Ranger Patina for all metal, 
Moss and Jade colours, before rubbing in a bit of Ranger Black archival ink.

The bunched ribbon is some seam binding from my stash.
