Fly Challenge......with Tam

Good morning creative souls,

Tam here today to share my first creation for our current challenge....

use 'Fly' in a quote......

I'm loving the softer colour tones with the black and white.....POP!

Look at all those beautiful Tracy Scott scribbled flowers!!
Yum!

My favourite of her stamps EVER!!!!!

Let's take a look at how this came together....

I began by stamping a whole heap of the scribble flowers, in both large and small.
Make sure you use a waterproof ink so you can add some colour.

Now time to colour them in.....
I wanted to try something a little different, I wanted something a little softer than the bold, bright colours I usually gravitate to....

Dina paints are quite opaque and the last thing I wanted to do was cover up those gorgeous scribble lines, so I added lots of water to each until they had the consistency of watercolour paint.

I then painted them on quite randomly - I tried not to think about this part!

Time to cut them out.
Sigh what a pile of happiness!!

Ok, onto the background...
to enhance the colour, I decided to go with black and white, but then totally black seemed a little harsh, so I combined some Dina Wakley 'Black' and 'White' paint to create a grey.

I added water and then added some to some old plastic packaging.
I again added water.....

.....turned it over and splodged it onto a sheet of white cardstock.

Using this technique allows you to have some control over where the paint sits on your page.
It's also really satisfying watching it 'smooodge' through the plastic.

I also added a few flicks of paint too.
I want the flowers to cascade down the page so I placed the background from the top right of page down to the bottom left.

I then added some random stamping.
I used these circles from the same Tracy Scott stamp set as the scribbled flowers.

I also used a AALL & Create Stamp for the background too.

Once happy, it was time to add my photos and flowers.

I added a few tags around the photos, and then used some gorgeous 'German Scrap' Angel Wings to go with the 'fly' theme.

I cut them in half, adding a Mambi Chip to the centre and a couple of word stickers by 7Dots Studio.
I added my quote to a couple of 7Dots Tags.

I then added the flowers.....

I felt I needed a few more pops of black to balance out the black tag and angel wings which were quite heavy on the right hand side, so I added a bold circle stamp, again by Tracy Scott.

I also grabbed some metal flowers and added black gesso, and tucked these throughout the layout.

and just like that I'm happy.

Here's a few more shots.......
just cause I always take too many.

Are you going to have a go at this challenge,
I sure hope so......

Tam's first share using teal and purple!

Hi creative souls,

Tam here today, I've popped in to show you how I created my layout for our current challenge. TEAL and PURPLE!

Now some of you know.....I struggle with purple. I'm a huge fan of colour - the brighter the better, but well me and purple...we don't like each other.  In fact I've been known to call purple my nemesis, my kryptonite.

I discovered this fact a couple of years ago when I went to create for a moodboard that was mainly purple, and I discovered that I had NOTHING purple!  I went hunting through my completed layouts and I discovered again....no purple!  I've never been a fan of purple in my wardrobe, but I hadn't ever noticed that this dislike had morphed into my creative life.
So.....time to become friends with purple.

I ordered a few purple paints and mists and have been dabbling over the last 12 months....still struggling a bit but determined to become friends with this colour....after all it's in the rainbow and I Love all the other colours.  Poor purple!

Something that has helped my block is the fabulous Michelle Bee.
She always says 'it's only red and blue'.  So true!  A game changer.

Doesn't the purple look gorgeous when paired with the teal???
I just might be a convert!

I scrapped a recent photo of my girl which I totally LOVE!!
(I may have borrowed it from her social media!)
A mum's gotta do what a mum's gotta do right?

Let's take a look at how this layout came together...

I selected white carstock as my base and added some modelling paste through my favourite Aall & Create Stencil.

Once dry, I added some Dylusions Ink Spray in Calypso Teal and Crushed Grape using the plastic packaging technique.

Just spritz some spray onto some packaging plastic that was heading for the bin, add some water and then splodge it onto the layout.

It's my most used technique, especially with sprays!

I then added some stamping using these Carabelle Stamps - Mixed Media Strips

I added my title to the top left of the layout - I used a clear word sticker by 13 Arts.

This then left room for the rest of the layout.

Time to add some embellishments!
I stamped some flowers onto another sheet of white cardstock using the gorgeous flower stamp by  Carabelle.
(Make sure you use archival ink for this step so when you add some colour, it doesn't bleed).

Time to colour them in.
I used the same Dylusions Ink Spray colours - I opened the bottles and painted them on with a brush.

I fussy cut these out and then I stamped some stems using the Carabelle Stamp - Scribbled leaves textured circles.
I kept these black and white.
I wanted the colour to be in the flowers and the background.

I then fussy cut these out.
These were then added around the photos, along with the flowers. I wanted them to look like they were cascading down the page.

I tucked some Writers Block tags by 7Dots around the photos, and then cut out some butterflies from a 7Dots sheet of paper.

Again, I love the black and white with the pops of colour.

The final step was to add some thread to the clusters.

Are you going to have a go at this gorgeous colour combo this month???

I highly recommend it.

You could win a voucher from Vicki's gorgeous store (just between you and me she has loads of new stuff and more to come, so how good would some splurging be?), and you could even get invited to come and play with us as a guest designer!

All you need to do it be inspired by this board:

Easy right.
You can create a layout, a journal page, a few cards, some tags.....whatever you like using some Scrap Matrix products.
Once you are done, just add it to the 'Teal and Purple' Album on the Scrap Matrix Shares Facebook page and don't forget to list the products you used.

I can't wait to check them out.

I'll be back again with another purple-y share soon. Until then you can see more on my BLOG.

Creative hugs

Tam

Double layout - A year in review ... By Lynn

Hi everyone, today I would like to share the details of my layout for this month's challenge -

A year in Review

Here is the moodboard

We have decided this month to give the "double scrapbookers" some inspiration and have created a double layout:

I have used the paper collection - Garden Party by 7 Dots for the background.

I have inked a plain piece of water colour paper using Dylusion ink sprays - Funky Fuschia, Black Marble, Lemon Zest, Cut Grass and Crushed Grape.

I have then stamped the entire background using the flower stamp by Art By Marlene.  I have also stamped some circles and added splatters to give more texture detail.

Then the job of fussy cutting!!!!!  I did the same process with the leaves as I did with the flowers.

I have then also stamped the same images on the background paper to align with where my photos are going.

I have double backed by photos (I couldnt decide which colour to use to used both!).  I have used the Ideology alpha stamp in lower case for my title.

Here are some close ups:
