'Sweet Life' by Elisa Ablett

Hi Everyone!!

Elisa here from the design team with my latest layout, another 'gasp' mixed media layout 😉😉😆.

This one is also based on this months challenge, ALL THINGS RANGER!

To create the background I used the mini circle gel press plate along with my Dina Wakely Scribble Sticks. I wet the gel plate slightly and scribbled a wet scribble stick onto the gel plate and then lightly spritzed with water. Then i used the gel plate as a stamp and stamped coloured circles on my page. Repeat with different colours! then using a black dylusion paint pen add scribbled grungy marks around a few of the circles.

Don't forget to visit the Scrap Matrix Shares Facebook Group to enter into the challenge.

Here is the finished layout -

Here are some close ups of the finer details....

Another technique I used to create the background is to dab ink through a Ranger Stencil to add some dimension to the page and also create a flow across the page.

I was messing around with the Dina Wakely Scribble Sticks and stamping and Holy Moley I love stamping with them. All you have to do is coat your stamp with the scribble stick of your choice and spritz with water. Then stamp onto your page. I then used a paintbrush to add some of the liquid to colour in the stamped image and let dry and then i fussy cut them out! I layered them all around my photo and chipboard circle.

Add some splashes of Dylusions Sprays to your page to add a little bit of shimmer :-)

I also matted my photo in coordinating paper by 13arts, the designer is Fiona Paltridge and the collection is strength-in-numbers. Awesome collection!

Here are a few of the products from Scrap Matrix that I used to complete this layout -

Scrap Matrix - Ranger challenge February 2018

A huge thank you to Vicki Christensen, for the opportunity to design with the Scrap Matrix team.  I’m super excited to be part of such a talented group and to support a local South Australian business.

Now for my first project, which is an Art Journal page.

I started with a white page, in my Dina Wakley Media Journalwhich I coated with Ranger white gesso, to stop the media seeping through. Blank pages can be a bit daunting, so my approach is the dive right in and make a mess some marks!
So I dipped my fingers into some creamy Dylusions paints and rubbed them over the page, blending them as I went.  I used Laid Back Lilac, Funky Fuchsia, Periwinkle Blue and White Linen.
Adding more layers to increase the intensity of the colours.
To add texture I swiped Distress Crackle Paint, Clear Rock Candy through a Tim Holtz Stencil, “Splash”   I like the way it cracks and also takes on the colour of the paint underneath.
The white gesso was added through a Tim Holtz Burlap stencil.
I added the Art Journal stamp at the top and some stamping from the same set (Dylusions stamps, Inbetweenies- DYR34575) along the side, using Tim Holtz Jet Black Archival Ink. The words are from Dina Wakley Stamps, (Handwritten Quotes MDR44475)
Wanting to add more colour and patterns I sponged some Oxides through a Tim Holtz stencil Set 27
Because I didn't have an idea to begin with, I fished through my stamps to see what would go with these quotes and found my little birds.  Dylusions Stamps, "Put a bird on it", They just look so cheery, I thought they’d be right at home on the colourful background.
Using a Tim Holtz stamp press, I got a crisp, clean stamped finish which
I then fussy cut and painted the birds with Distress Oxides,
Walnut Stain
Peeled Paint
Broken China
Peacock Feathers
Fired Brick
Iced Spruce
Twisted Citron
I glued the birds in place with Tim Holtz Multi Medium Matte.
Finally I added the flowers through a Tim Holtz stencil very similar to this.

Thanks for calling in, I hope you found something to inspire you.
Be sure to check out the Scrap Matrix blog in a day or so,
for another Design Team Project.

Ranger Challenge - Rebecca's First Share

Hello Everyone,

Rebecca here today with you to share a created Tim Holtz configuration box. I cannot lie, Tim is my crafting hero, I feel we may be kindred spirits. I love ALL Tim Holtz products, I cannot get enough of them and will happily admit I have a good stash to stare at and admire.

This box is packed with Idea-ology product and Scrap Matrix metal, combined also with my personal stash and vintage bits and pieces I had here in my craft room.  I do apologise in advance as this blog post is a little heavy on the photos, I wanted to ensure you all got a very good look around the entire box.

For this project I have used a Tim Holtz configuration box from my stash, however you can use other things to create a project like this such as printers trays, jewellery box trays, boxes etc. Think outside the box (literally).

I urge you to look through the close up photos below to see what can actually be used in a project like this. There are items that were destined for the bin, they actually look good here - buttons, champagne metal top, rusty thimble, watch parts, light bulb from my Mum's Rav 4, broken jewellery chain. Never ever be afraid to experiment.

May thanks for checking into the blog today to take a look at my project. Please if you have any questions at all do not be afraid to get in touch and ask. I look forward to seeing all your creations in the Scrap Matrix Ranger challenge this month.

Wishing you all a happy and creative day.

~ Rebecca ~

All Things Ranger Challenge - Distress Oxides

Hi Everyone,

Monique here with the layout I created for this months Ranger Challenge  at Scrap Matrix.

I don't know about you, but at the moment one of my go-to products are the super awesome Distress Oxide inks.  Found here, in the Scrap Matrix Shop.  They are so versatile.  Dry, they are just like the amazing Distress Inks we all know and love.  Add some water, or add them to some damp paper - and that's when they really come into their own.  They can also be used on dark papers!!  How cool is that?

Anyway, this is what I created:

I created my background work by first applying texture paste onto some 7 Dots Studio Dreamscapes "Twinkle" paper with this 13 Arts stencil.  This is my favourite go - to stencil at the moment.  It is fantastic for grungy boy layouts!

Next, I applied some Distress Oxide ink in Vintage photo to my craft sheet.  I sprayed it with water, and painted the ink on with a thick brush - spraying the paper with water to distribute the ink further.  I dried this, then applied some Distress Oxide ink in Fossilised Amber to my craft sheet, spraying it with water and painting it on - again spraying water onto the paper to distribute the colour evenly.  I dried it all once more, and kept adding layers of colour in this way until I was happy with the result.  Distress Oxide Fossilised Amber and Vintage Photo  inks are a match made in heaven with the 7 Dots Dreamscapes range.

I also coloured a Blue Fern Studios "Ironworks Medley" Chipboard piece with Distress Oxide ink in Vintage Photo.  First I painted it with Gesso, then I dabbed on some of the Vintage Photo ink straight from the pad.  I then sprayed it with a little bit of water to activate the ink and add a bit of interest.  I did the same with the Prima Wooden Cogs and Gears, using Fossilised Amber instead.

Here are some close ups:

That's it from me today, I hope I have inspired you to get yourself some Distress Oxides and have a play. If you want to play along with this month's awesome All Things Ranger challenge, don't forget to upload your entry to the correct album on the Scrap Matrix Shares Page.

Here is a full list of materials I have used, with links to the Scrap Matrix shop:

Thank you for stopping by - Hope you all have a glorious time scrapping!!

Tammy's first Ranger Challenge post

Hi all

Tammy here today to share my first creation using Ranger products.

I absolutely adore Ranger products, and my absolute favourites are anything by Dina Wakley, and the awesome Dylusions products.

I recently got my hands on Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks, and I have to say at first they terrified me! I honestly didn't know where to start, and I put all this pressure on myself to be really arty with them.

Once I'd calmed down, I decided to just do what I know, stop feeling like I had to create an artistic masterpiece......so instead I decided to create a scrapbooking background and go from there.

Here's what I came up with......

Yep, see I used my favourite go to colours!

So I began by applying some white gesso to some black cardstock.

I swiped it where I wanted my colour to go.

Once dry I grabbed a few of the Scribble Sticks and began to simply colour these on quite randomly.

I then added some water and used a brush to disperse the colour, and also sprayed some water directly onto the background, letting it run down the page.

Pretty cool hey?

As I had so much colour and the black background, I decided my layout needed something fresh and white to make it 'pop'.

I stamped some of my favourite Dina Wakley stamps 'Abstract Blooms' onto white cardstock with Ranger Archival Ink, and then cut these out.

I then used the Scribble Sticks to colour  some guaze.

I coloured some white/cream flowers with Dylusions Ink Spray in Polished Jade and Fresh Lime.

I also used the Scribble Sticks to colour some smaller flowers

I then began to layer it all up.

I added a few 7Dots Studio tags behind my photo along with the guaze.

I then tucked in the stamped flowers and added the coloured flowers.

Inbetween these layers I tucked  some German Scrap.

For my title I used these chalkboard look stickers from 'Me and My Big Ideas'.

I also added a few of these randomly to my page for some extra journaling.

I poked some of these Crystal Stems into the clusters.

The final step was to flick some white gesso over the layout and swipe some around the edges.

I hope this has inspired you today.

I can't wait to see what you come up with for the Ranger Challenge.
The challenge runs until the 14th March and the only rules are that it must container Ranger products, and a few of those products must be available from Scrap Matrix.

How easy is that???
So get creating and then load your entry to the Scrap Matrix Shares Ranger Album.
Here is where you'll find it.

I'll pop back soon with another Ranger creation soon.
