Blooming Beauty

Hello once again I'm back sharing another project using the
wonderful products available at Scrap matrix.

This time I've done a layout using some of my favourite photos.  These were taken some time ago and feature my beautiful niece. Her birthday is in a few days and I am going to use this to wish her a wonderful birthday.

This months prompt is Powerful Blooms and instantly brings to mind big showy flowers. But, to me, it's that powerful reaction that some flowers evoke.

Pansies remind me of the back path leading to my great-grandmother's little cottage. Snapdragons, sweet peas and marigolds bring back wonderful memories of running around my grandmother's garden as a child.  My other grandmother had a collection of orchids and African violets that would make any gardener's heart swoon. All little flowers but powerful memories.

So with those wonderful memories on my mind I decided to do this layout.
Here is a list of products you'll need.

First I chose two pieces of complimenting papers from 7 Dots.(I love how most of the collections match with each other.) I tore one roughly in half and attached it to the top of the other and covered it with gesso.  Then using my stencil and modelling paste I went over the join. I was going to sprinkle a little glitter over the paste but of course that was when my husband came home early and gave me a fright. Glitter everywhere! Oh well, I like a little sparkle in my life. I left it to dry.

Having chosen my colours I dabbed the pinks using a brush  over the page and spritzed them with water to make them run. Well it was a bit too pink for me, so I also sprayed on some Clam Bake Beige. This toned it down and added a lovely shimmer. I stamped some of the flowers randomly over the page making sure I only got the flowers and not the stems.  I also stamped these onto white cardstock and coloured some with Rose Quartz using a brush. I wanted some white space on them so it was done haphazardly.

I cut some strips from another piece of 7 Dots paper, (I'm sorry I didn't take note of which ones I used), and attached them to the page. I placed a few tags and die cuts from 7 Dots and the fussy cut flowers around my photos until I was happy with the layout.  I looped the cord through one tag and around the page then glued everything down. I added  the sequins and splatters of White Linen and Slate grey.

Lastly I added the quote stickers also from 7 Dots Studio.

There you have it, another project done and dusted.

Happy Birthday Chelsea!

Jen.

Let's take a closer look at the finer details!

Getting the most out of some of my Scrap Matrix metal flower and wing embellishments plus black and silver bling.

To create the gorgeous flowers and leaves, I used an Art by Marlene Stamp stamped with archival ink over the top of a water colour background. The colours were made with Berry ink, teal spray with a touch of pink as well.

Fussy cut your water colour stamped flowers, fairy and leaves and layer to create a dream catcher.

Hand dye some white fabric flowers with your inks to match your layout!

I also fussy cut some gorgeous leaves from the Art by Marlene Collage papers book from Scrap Matrix. They matched fabulously with my selected colours.

Well that's it from me today, I hope you have been inspired to try your hand at the current challenge!

Hugs

Scrap Matrix January 2019 Challenge - a second project with Helen

Welcome back to the Scrap Matrix challenge this month
where we have an eclectic mood board to inspire you.

You can take this challenge pretty much where ever you want;
 it's so versatile.

Once again, the team has been invited to to use multiple photos,
so I specifically took heaps of shots on Christmas day.

I decided to keep it simple & create frugally as I did years ago.
One sheet of paper and a few scraps is all I used.

I'm such a fan of this paper collection, 7 Dots, paint chip collection, "Aquarmarine"
What better for photos at the beach.

To partially frame the photos, I cut some contrasting scraps of paper,
using some old dies from my stash.

The titles and stars are all from a Pink Fresh Studio,

It was lovely to see the Cousins enjoying each other's company.
The Photo App tag is from Mambi chips, "Vacation".

I used the Carabelle stamp, "Bulles d'eau",  because it reminds me of the bubbles
in the sea, the champagne we drank and the effervescence of the children.
I randomly stamped the bubbles with
White ink from my stash.

Here, I'm trialling the elements in various places on the paper.

I decided to type my journalling on white card stock, so that it would stand out from the background. But then it looked too stark, so I pulled out some Tim Holtz distress Oxides.

Testing how the colours blend and checking that they will look OK on the background.
I keep these little test swatches with the Oxides
in case I need the same combination later on.

Before I separated the lines of text, I smooshed the card stock through the Oxides and dried it with a heat tool.

Later I flicked on a bit of extra green Oxide paint.

I'm happy with this photo journalist style of page, it narrates the Joy of the moments in an inexpensive and simple way.

How about you, do you have a group of photos you'd like to get scrapped?   I hope you've found some inspiration here and will play along.

Just add your entry to the Scrap Matrix Shares page, in the corresponding folder and don't forget to let us know what Scrap Matrix products you used and what inspired you.  You could be in the running for a generous gift voucher and perhaps a Guest Design Team spot down the track.

AALL & CREATE - stamp and stencil challenge, August 2018 with Helen

Welcome back to the Scrap Matrix challenge where for the whole of August, we are challenging you to dust off your Stamps and Stencils from AALL & CREATE and join in the fun.

There is a huge range of products from this company.
Why not check out what the rest of the team have done with them.

I chose one of the new papers from 7 Dots as my background and gave it a coat of clear gesso before using a stencil down the left side.

I masked off part of the stencil with post it notes, as I wanted
just a strip of letters along the edge and the post it notes
helped me to get a crisp result.

By stamping onto tissue paper, I was able to move the images around on the page, until I was happy with placement.  This particular stamp reminded me of a reptile image - just perfect to highlight my brave little Snake Girl!

I used Art Basics soft matte gel, to adhere the tissue to the paper.

Three stamps were just not enough, so I added a few more.  The Butterfly, bee and insect all remind me of this little kidlet, she flits here and there, always on the go and  eager for new experiences.

The "Dream big, fly high" quote, was perfect for her,
as she's eager to travel and see the world.

I used some pencils from my stash to add colour to the images,
but if you don't have any, you can find a similar product, by Prima, in the Scrap Matrix store.

Thanks for calling in today, I hope you find time to play along,
just add your entry to the Scrap Matrix Shares page in the corresponding folder; don't forget to let us know what Scrap Matrix products you used and what inspired you.  You could be in the running for a $30.00 gift voucher and perhaps a Guest Design Team spot down the track.
