Moodboard Challenge

Good morning folks,

Monique here sharing my take on Scrap Matrix's Moodboard this month.  If you haven't seen it yet, here it is:

Wow - when I first saw this I fell in love with the colours, and the hearts.  This is what I came up with:

I don't really have a scrap room anymore (one of the negatives of Apartment living.)  I usually create on our dining room table.  To be able to do that efficiently, I find it easy to have all my go-to bits and pieces easily accessible.  My two Raskog Trollies are the absolute bomb.  It is so easy to store all my mixed media and scrapbooking essentials on them, and then have kits of other necessities made up to grab as soon as the mood to create takes hold!

As you can see I was really inspired by the teals and the pinks in the mood board, so those colours formed a basis of my layout with the gorgeous 13 Arts Strength in Numbers Paper range, available at Scrap Matrix here.  I also loved the circular theme to one of the pictures, so I added some of those awesome Blue Fern Studio Broken Rings chipboard pieces - which I coloured yellow with a Faber Castell Gelato in Lemon.

Of course, I had to add lots of layers on my base paper with ink sprays and stamps.  I absolutely adore using 7 Dots Studio stamps on my background.  On this layout I have used the Homegrown Clear Stamp  and the Cotton Candy Dreams Clear Stamp, both available at Scrap Matrix.

Finally, I added some Feathers and Hearts from the 13 Arts Strength In Numbers Chipboard, some 13 Arts Marta Stickers Small Messages A5 which I backed with some coordinating paper, and finished the whole thing off with some well - loved paint brushes and some flowers.

Here are some close ups:

Well that's it from me for now, hope you enjoyed my first blog post as part of the Scrap Matrix Design Team.  I can't wait to see your interpretations of this month's challenge!  Don't forget to put your entries on our Facebook Page.

Lynn's Challenge share

Hi everyone, I am super excited to be part of the wonderful Scrap Matrix design team.  I hope that you find time to play along with us - you will be in with a chance to win as shopping voucher from Scrap Matrix.

This months fabulous moodboard is all about our crafting space:

Here is my take on the moodboard

I do have a craft room, but prefer to scrap in the hub of the house.  I am lucky to have a HUGE lounge room and have taken over part of it.

The photo shows my three favourite storage items - map drawers which also form my standing desk area, the red tool box and the 5 sets of steel drawers.  I also love my two ikea raskogs.

This is a couple of photos of my actual craft room which is really a storage room for some of my stash!!!

I thought I would also share my diecut storage - my husband attached magnetic sheeting to plywood - I have two of these and they are fantastic - I hate having to take things out of their packages as I never put them back in and end up in a mess - these sit at each end of my steel drawers in the lounge.

Well enough of my space, back to the layout:

After distressing the edges and applying clear gesso to the paper, I have used silks acrylic paint through a 13 arts stencil

Around the photo area I have used Prima White Crackle paste and another 13 arts stencil.

I have then applied 13 arts powders and mists.

Here are some close ups:

I have used Blue Fern Studio paper - Happy Accident.  I created my own tags which are edged with Distress Ink - Scattered Straw

I coloured a gauze pad with 13 arts Water Colour Powder - Rainbow Colour Duo Yellow Amber and Ayeeda Mist - Chalk Burnt Sienna.
The German Scrap Embossed Trim was sanded to distress and coloured with Finnabair Metalique Wax - Vintage Gold

13 arts colour, together with black stamping

White paper lace and metal trinkets

glass pebbles were placed randomly on the layout.
Glass beads, micro beads and white gesso splatters completed the layout.

Here is a list of the products used with links to the Scrap Matrix shop

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find time to have a go at joining us - to enter the challenge all you need to do is upload your project to the Scrap Matrix Shares facebook page.

til next time - Happy Crafting

Tammy's Challenge Share

Hi everyone

Tammy here today and I'm excited to share my first post as part of the awesome Design Team, Scrap Matrix.

We are having our first ever challenge (and its fantastic!!) and we'd love you to join in.

Vicki is offering a voucher from her store.....and she seriously has the BEST stuff - all my favourite brands.  She is the only Australian stockist of 13Arts and she also has companies like Dina Wakely, Dylusions, Blue Fern, 7 Dots and many many more.

So the challenge is this awesome Mood Board:

It's all about our space....where we create....where the magic happens!!

You could have an amazing studio, a designated room, a desk, your kitchen table - wherever and whatever it is we'd love to see it!

You can head to the Scrap Matrix Shares Facebook Page to enter your creation (you'll find it in the Album section).

I can't wait to check out your entries!!

So without further ado, here is my space......

I had so much fun creating this one.  It's busy and messy.....just like my space.

I'm so very grateful to have a room to scrap/create in.  It's my haven, my safe place.  I love that I can get messy - and then just shut the door!!  It's MY MESS! Yep my creative mess.

I do tend to tidy up after each creation - it helps my creativity.
I just LOVE messing things up and having a clean slate allows me to feel that free feeling when the mess starts to occur!  But I can only handle a certain amount of mess before I need some sense of order again.

I began by applying white gesso all over my cardstock.  I then added some black gesso to one side of the layout.  I also added a few flicks of black gesso.

I then brushed some Aqua/Rose Opal Magic Paint onto the black gesso, using a stencil from 'The Crafters Workshop' called 'Sketch Grid'.

I just LOVE this product  - I rave on about it often, but basically it's a lovely soft pink metallic on white, and turns a gorgeous metallic teal against black.  It really is like magic.

I then added some Dylusions spray in Fresh Lime to some Soft Gloss Gel.
I swiped this through a 13 Arts Triangle Stencil.

I then had a lot of fun with some Dylusions Sprays - spritzing and flicking these onto my layout. I really love the vibrancy of the colours.

I then added a variety of stamps.  Some around the edges of the gesso, and also along the sides of my layout.

I then added some but pieces of mesh tape, and some washi tape. I love how the mesh tape adds texture and interest.

I then coated some of the gorgeous Scrap Matrix Metals with white gesso. I love how this totally changes up the metal and gives it a fresh look.

I added my photos in a cluster to my page.

I tucked lots of 7Dots Tags and paper off cuts behind my photos.

I tucked in the metal and also added some embellishments.

I used 7Dots Word Stickers, 13 Arts Clear Stickers, metal feathers, string and even some old dry paintbrushes. How cool do they look!

Finally I added my journaling and also some micro-beads in hot pink with Soft Gloss Gel.

So there you have it.......

Here's a few close ups to finish off with

'A Beautiful Mess' by Elisa Ablett

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the Scrap Matrix Blog!

I am so excited to present my first share on the blog as part of the awesome design team for Scrap Matrix. I am featuring a layout I created for the September Moodboard challenge which is all about sharing your 'craft space', this is a fantastic challenge as you can interpret this in many ways, show us where you create, your storage ideas, the mess you make ... anything really to do with your 'creative space'.

We would love for you all to participate - head on over to the Scrap Matrix Shares facebook page, join the group and enter your layout into the album to be in with a chance to win a voucher to the store. Scrap Matrix Shares Facebook Group

The store is an absolute treasure trove of scrapbooking and mixed media products, including wonderful paper ranges including Blue Fern Studios paper, stamps, stencils and 13arts products.

No automatic alt text available.

and here is the layout I created for the design team reveal!

I wanted to showcase my craft room after a mad creating session - a beautiful mess! plus i wanted to feature multiple photos on the page, including a few of my favourite storage items, a small white storage rack that fits on my desk, my two trolleys from aldi that hold all my tools and mediums and an old wooden work bench that i adjusted so that i can stand and scrap as well.

Being creative is like therapy for me so this page represents my 'happy place' along with the things i like most about creating in my space...

I wanted to share with you a few of the techniques and products that I used to create the bright mixed media layout.

To begin my background I had to prep a the metal pieces and my chipboard with gesso and let them dry. I painted my chipboard title black once dry.

Once my paintbrush chipboard had been prepped with gesso and dried. I painted the handles to resemble wood with a lovely bronze sparkle paint from 13arts and then I used the Dina Wakley paint to paint the tips to go with my background.

I used one of my favourite paper collections from Blue Fern Studios - Happy Accident, I trimmed the bottom strips off and cut a few coordinating pieces from the second sheet of paper to go under my photos.

To achieve the background technique, I first added paint blobs on my craft mat and then sprayed them liberally with water (the Dina Wakely paint waters down nicely), I then placed my paper upside down on the craft mat and blotted my paper onto the watered down paint.

Next step is to add some lovely splatters to your page!

To add splatters, I love to use a fan brush, I added a lovely blob of 'Ocean' Dina Wakely paint on my craft mat then added water, mix with your brush and then tap your brush over your page where you want the splatters to go.

The two colours of Dina Wakely paint that I used are Ocean and Fuchsia.

To colour your metal pieces, I decided on using the bronze paint on the outside and the Ocean paint on the inside of the flowers. Let dry thoroughly and then add a coat of protective sealant over the top. Glossy accents, or spray sealant.

Add your paper lace trim to the outside edges of your layout and then add some stamping to your page - I used a lovely set of stamps available in store today by Paper Artsy - E3 by Tracey Scott 11

Next add some texture to your background by using a gorgeous 13 arts 6x6 Stencil- Her Style and black modelling or heavy gesso and a palette knife.

Last step before you assemble your page is to add some lovely gold accents and messy script writing with the Gold Pico Embellisher and place some 13arts stickers over your layout to coordinate with your theme for example... i used 'practice art everyday' and 'creative mess'

Here are some close ups!

and here is the finished layout again after assembling all your pieces.

Well that's it from me today, thank you so much for popping by the blog to see my layout and the techniques used to create it.
