Hi Everyone,

Elisa here from the design team with my latest layout based on this month's
Metals and Petals challenge.

The Challenge details and album can be found in the Scrap Matrix Shares Group  on Facebook, join today for inspiration and keep up to date with the new products coming into the store!

I utilised the gorgeous papers from the 7Dots Studio Garden Party collection again for this challenge and the gorgeous Berry Jane Davenport Inkcredible Ink.

I also tried my hand at sewing on my layout!!!

Here are some close ups of the finer details.

Cover your metal butterflies in gesso, then splatter ink over the top and let dry. If you have a sewing machine or like hand sewing, add grungy sewing and threads to your layout by sewing your German Scrap Medallions onto tags and then glue to your layout.

Spritz water into small puddles onto your page and then drop ink into the puddles and let the ink spread causing crystallisation around the edges.

Let dry and then stamp over the top to create grungy flowers.

Snip your quotes into smaller pieces to fit with your design!

Use a distress tool to smooth ink through stencils over the whiter areas of your layout. I used a couple of colours from the Distress Oxide Range including Bundled Sage and Black Soot.

That's it from me today, make sure you leave me some love in the comments and I hope to see you soon over on the Scrap Matrix Shares Page!

"Be Yourself" with Metals and Petals

Hi everyone, Monique here with my first share for this month's "Metals and Petals" challenge which is running with Scrap Matrix this month.

This is what I created:

I decided to use this photo of my gorgeous niece, which I decided would be beautifully offset by the gorgeous 7 Dots Studio Garden Party collection.  The deep purple of the "Annual" paper suited the grungy effect I wanted to create.

I actually used two pieces of the Annual paper.  I tore off about one third of the first paper, and distressed the purple side, running some archival ink along the distressed edge.  I then adhered that to the second Annual paper.  Using the 7 Dots "Garden Party" 6x6 Floral Knot Stencil, I added some Black Modelling Paste to the background.

Next, I added some German Scrap Fleur de Lis #2 Black down the join where the two papers meet., and splashed on some white gesso.

To make my photo mat, I got some  tags from the 12x12 tag sheet, and some black paper for the photo mat from the 7 Dots Studio "Garden Party - Garden Gnomes" and stapled it all together.  Once done, I matted it to my photo with some cardboard to give it some dimension.

I added my photo just over the top of the Floral Knot Stencil, allowing some of the swirls to come out from underneath. I also tucked some muslin in under my photo for extra definition.

Finally, I added some embellishments - Cut our butterflies from the 7 Dots Studio "Garden Party - Born" paper, some Brass Round Medium #1 Flowers, some Brass Square Large #4 flowers and some stickers from the Garden Party 6x12 Word Stickers Sheet.  Voila!!  All done!!

Go on - have a go, and once you have finished your creation all you have to do is upload it into the "Metals and Petals" folder on the Scrap Matrix Shares Facebook Page.

You've Got Mail Art Journalling - With Karyn Schultz!

Hi Scrap Matrix Lovelies!!

It's Karyn here and this month I'm lucky enough to be a guest DT member for Scrap Matrix!! Very exciting!! Thankyou so much Vicki and your fabulous Design Team!

The Scrap Matrix challenge for October is "You've got mail". I decided to create an art journal page.

Here is the "You've got mail" challenge inspiration pic.

I've used a small Dylusions art journal (Scrap Matrix has a large range of journals here ) and I've used Distress Oxides to create my background. The colours I've chosen are Faded jeans, Broken china, squeezed lemonade and twisted citron. I've used a painting with plastic technique to apply them to my page where I stamp the inkpad onto some plastic packaging, spritz with water then "smoosh/stamp" onto and around my page.

I do this with each colour separately and let the colour dry between each layer. Then I add splats of each colour.

I also colour some tags to use on my page. I stamp each of the colours onto my craft mat, spritz with water then smoosh the tags into the colour. I let each colour dry then add another colour until I'm happy with the look.

I wanted to add some texture to my page and the tags so I coloured some white texture paste with the Distress oxides - stamp the ink pad onto your craft mat then add texture paste and mix well.

I've applied the coloured texture paste through a Prima flower stencil across my page and on the tags in places. This is a great way to create coloured texture pastes customised to the colours of your page. Add more colour for a darker effect. The same tinting technique can be created using oil pastels, Scribble sticks, mica powders, acrylic paints and even watercolour pan paints.

Once this had thoroughly dried I added some stamping using the #2 Aall and Create stamp set and Aall and Create stencil #9. I then created some clusters for my page using tags, German scraps embellishments and sewing thread as well as the star of the page - a stamp!

Here are some closeups of my page.

Thankful by Sandra Brimelow

Hi everyone, I am pleased to be back as a guest designer for Scrap Matrix, for the frames challenge. Here is the graphic for the challenge:

When you think about it, there are many ways we can use frames on our layouts. You could use chipboard or wood veneer frames, doodled or stitched frames, a frame of flowers, patterned paper to frame, the list is endless.
I was sent some gorgeous chipboard frames to play with for this challenge, and this inspired my layout.

Thankful

The background to my layout was created using these gorgeous patterned papers from 13 Arts. I used Dream and Destination.

Now I ordinarily do not like to work with purple, but these papers were so lovely to used, I had to draw the purple out to use on my layout. I added a wash using Tim Holtz distress oxides - Wilted Violet and Bundled Sage  to the background. Using the TCW stencil - coffee splotch and Finnabair Texture Paste - antique silver crackle, I added some silver to background to provide a frame to the outer edge of the paper. I also did some faux stitching as another border, to the corners of the paper.

I wanted to add a bit more framing around the photo, so I did this using Paper Artsy JOFY 26 stamp set which I coloured with Faber Castell gelatos - Metallic Grape, Lavender, Fig and Metallic Ink.

Finally to embellish, I added Blue Fern Studio flowers - late winter lilliesMAMBI chips - Hey you collectionTim Holtz Ideology - Big Chat and Small Talk. Underneath my photo, I have laid some German Scraps.

I must admit, initially I was a bit nervous about doing the framed challenge as a guest designer, but I am so very pleased with how this layout turned out. I hope you can find time to play along with the challenge. Until next time........Sandra
